ImageI’m now leading the class called “Still Yoga” at the Vancouver YWCA Health and Fitness Centre. Mondays from 11:30 to 12:00, we lie down in savasana (corpse pose) to do this ancient Himalayan practice. I’ve been practicing it for over 6 years now, and was so glad to be able to help keep this class going. It works on so many levels to create deep relaxation and peace of mind along with rejuvenation of the body in ways that are unseen. Gradually, students learn to stay awake and alert throughout the practice, and to enjoy the benefits of this deep relaxation of the body and alertness of mind throughout the day and week to come. Because it is such a simple-looking practice it might seem to the outside observer to be an easy thing to do. Not at all. The sphere of awareness in which Yoga Nidra exists has functioned for eons as an aspect of the yoga tradition, and we have access to it here and now, even at the Vancouver YWCA!
